Managing interim
managers
The process of bringing in outside
expertise to a client's team does require consideration and planning.
As a potential client you should deal with the following:
- Know what you want in terms
of establishing objectives, timescales and resources for the
assignment.
- Prepare the other staff on the
team about the assignment. How will this affect them? What about
the long-term consequences of the assignment?
- Know what type of manager you
are looking for in terms of right skills, knowledge and experience.
- Give the interim manager the
right tools to do the job effectively- the induction, terms of
reference about the assignment, resources that need to be provided
and any support that will be required.
- Review the work assignment-
project analysis of how it went (or didn't go).
